CD Tracklisting
1. My Circuitboard City

Having been pleasantly delighted from Liverpool based ‘The Wombats’ recent Christmas single ‘Is This Christmas?’ which referenced the traditions and trails of a British holiday season from dinner to the re-watching of ‘Back to the Future’, I approached ‘My Circuitboard City’ with an open mind and ears.

It’s a single that exists in the vein of other bands the likes of Arctic Monkeys, The Enemy, and The View etc and yet to me it sounds like a throwback to Brit Pop meets with The Futureheads. The gang vocal harmonies give of the atmosphere you are likely to hear pouring out a British Pub on a Friday or Saturday night and it’ll easily be an indie darling anthem on Xfm if they so choose to pick the track up enough for airplay or is given enough praise from NME; but is it worth it.

Basically yes; it doesn’t ram itself down your throat with overly clever remarks and word play; it is simply an upbeat and dancey indie tune that has no great flaws. The lyrics are cynically delicious as they battle against the joyful tone of the music and use of sound effects (listen out for the crashing glass over the lyrics ‘Throw a spanner in the works’) and describe the down in the ‘ups and downs’ phase of a guys life and how he’s solution is to “have a dance/ have a drink/ suppress it back, ruin everything tonight.” Classic and yet so true.

It doesn’t jump out as a future hit straight away as it took me a couple listens to really get into it but at this stage in The Wombats career I think they are just easing their way into the scene and finding their own ground to play on without trying to make a huge statement of sorts. They have fans and enjoy the crowds they bring in to gigs and are slowly but surely gathering interest by the rest of the industry. Enjoy alongside their previous album release ‘A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation’ and wait to hear more from the ‘The Wombats’.
