The Hourly Radio - The MOD Club - June 21
This is a band that has a pretty large amount of alternative rock potential, hailing from Dallas Texas, the quartet have been compared to a range of new rock sounds from Panic! At the Disco! to Placebo.
Described by Nylon Magazine as anthem-like and danceable, the Hourly Radio could very well be one of music “next big things.” And while I will not disagree that their music is catchy and downright good there was a slight problem in their live show last night. Mainly that it was boring.
Vocalist Aaron Colsson has a voice that is very unique in a man, considering its range and its very obvious potential to go even farther, but aside from a very brief introduction and one very half-dead “Toronto rocks! Thanks!” there was no interaction, or connection between the band and the crowd. For the most part, those who had already trickled onto the floor left to find the bar, or to peruse the merch tables. Really only the die-hards remained – those people who would not give up their stage-front spot for anything.
The unfortunate truth of this band is that live, their music is not enough to hold an audience on its own, and rather than losing themselves in their songs and zipping off into their own little musically-fed world, The Hourly Radio needs to reach out and bring their audience (and their fans) in as well.
