Eyeliner wearing rockers Papa Roach want change. No, not Obama’s presidential campaign slogan, but something else entirely. The band’s newest 2009 release, Metamorphosis sheds any hint of their embarrassing Nu-Metal past; however, they continue making their generic, sleazy rock songs fit for the mainstream radio.

Their second single of the album, ‘Lifeline’ (the first single being ‘Hollywood Whore,’ go figure), reintroduces fans to their songs, in case they forgot the lyrics “Cut my life into pieces/This is my last resort” was by them.

The heavy, riff dominated guitar work from Jerry Horton, and the unchanging, static vocals from Jacoby Shaddix exemplifies their banal abilities as musicians. On the other hand, maybe the band really is changing their style— it’s just that no one knows it yet, “It was me in this world and a broken dream/I was blamin’ myself for all that was goin’ wrong.” Nevertheless, when listening to the track, it honestly cannot be taken seriously. Then again, the band probably doesn’t either: if they’re somewhere on the charts, then all is good for them. In fact, 'Lifeline' peaked at number one U.S. Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, so they really did all they really needed to do.

As for future plans, the band will support their equally boring counterparts Nickelback on their 'Dark Horse Tour' starting in July, which will extend over the course of two months. So, if you’re into lackluster live shows, or need something to laugh at for a couple of hours, check out their shows — it’ll be interesting, to say the least.
