On June 16th 2008, Luke Leighfield releases the single 'If You Haven't Got Anything To Say,' taken from his second album 'Fan The Flames.' Despite only being 20 years old, Luke has already released two full length albums aswell as playing over 300 gigs and studying English and Music at Southampton University.
He has successfully achieved all of this without having a manager/lawyer or a booking agent.
Luke has an interesting DIY approach to music and has created a 'piano pop' sound with his catchy and unconventional single 'If You Haven't Got Anything To Say.' The lyrics are as honest as you would expect them to be, coming from a 20 year old student; but Luke has cleverly cushioned their brutality with his soft vocals and happy piano fulled melodies.
I believe 'Coming Of Age,' is the stronger track of the two as it opens with an intro reminiscent of Vanessa Carlton pop tune '1000 miles.' The vocals are alot stronger here and the lyrical subject is a lot more common and something that nearly every other student in the UK can relate to.
Luke Leighfield's music is a much needed change within the pop world but you won't see Luke performing at such pop related festivals. Instead you'll see him performing at friend's birthday parties and festivals such as Latitude Festival and The Great Escape. A single release party is confirmed for June 19th at Hamptons, Southampton which will hopefully launch Luke's name higher into the pop industry.
