Jukebox Collective are a band from London with a lot of promise, currently signed to Supremo records. This single is the second release from the band and follows on from the self produced and recorded debut ‘Lost and Found’. From reading the press release I was pretty excited to see what the single had to offer after comparisons with LCD Soundsystem and mentions of a DIY influence.

From the opening it is apparent the track has a great summer feel and definitely makes me feel like dancing. Overall this is a great example of how a catchy guitar hook can develop into a great sounding single, the vocals are spot on and add charisma to the track. The dark electronic sound created by the bass adds real interest musically which is emphasised by the drumming and use of a cowbell.

Lyrically there is a paranoid theme throughout which suits the chatty vocal beautifully, the story told throughout the track takes a couple of listens to get fully hold of but basically revolves around a neighbour getting hassle from local kids and distracting himself creating animal floats (like you would see at a carnival).

The influences the band have taken on seem to span genres from post punk to indie to funk punk, the mention of James Murphys LCD Soundsystem as an influence is apparent in parts but I would place the band closer to the early funk punk of bands like the Radio 4 or the first Rapture album.Vocally I can hear a lot of Gang Of Four or Bromheads Jacket although there is an individual take on the post punk style which has been created.

If this is the second track released by this band they are definitely one to look out for as it’s a truly accomplished piece of work. It will be very interesting to see how the band develop in the coming months and years.
