The third single to be lifted from Fightstar's 'Be Human' album, seems an odd choice of single, especially over 'War Machine,' which has to be one of the best songs Fightstar have ever written.
That’s not to say staunch Fightstar fans are going to be disappointed; ‘Never Change’ takes Fightstar’s tried-and-tested experimental rock formula, injects it with some sticky-centred, poppy vocal rhythms and euphoric “whoooooa” backing vocals, to deliver everything you loved about Fightstar, with a more upbeat slant than we’re perhaps used to from the post-hardcore four-piece.
It’s lacking the snarling sentiment of ‘The English Way’ and can’t quite match ‘Mercury Summer’s fizzy enthusiasm, instead falling somewhere between the two. By no means a bad song, you’d be better off saving your money and putting it towards purchasing a copy of Fightstar’s excellent ‘Be Human’ album, because ‘Never Change’ is pretty much the weakest song on there.
