Summer is the time to travel and with cheaper flights and package deals to the sun it has never been easier. But how about a bit of sunshine closer to home? The perfect solution comes in the form of a band that formed back in 2002 at the time of the terrorist attacks in Bali and, along with the history of backpacking and adventure, their experiences have created a sound infused with latin, pop and socially aware lyrics.

Esteban’s debut EP Santiago is out on 15th September and brings solace to any listener in rain infused Britain, immediately transporting the listener to warmer climates. This is apparent in opening track Santiago which, from start to end, gives examples of what the band describe their sound as: desert funk. And funk is no underestimate with second track Say It Loud being bold, strong and catchy – all attributes associated with The Police, a band which Esteban have been likened to and it’s easy to see why with its influential lyrics and smooth sound. Furthermore, the next two tracks of the EP, Mass Aura and Paperboy, also manage to add to the euphoric mood that had been created previously, propelling the listener into a permanent sunshine fuelled state of mind. Even the artwork is as vibrant as the music and shows further creativity of the band as each of the three limited edition EPs (that are to be released over the forthcoming months) have been created out of oil on canvas – overall adding the finishing touch to this very much global sound.
