Support - King Blues


King Blues seemed to be well known amongst the varied audience, many of their t-shirts adorned already sweaty bodies in the club. Their music is a mix of rock, punk, ska and of course reggae.
At times the atmosphere transformed from a sweaty club in Yeovil to a sunny summers day at the Notting Hill carnival. This transformation was made complete by the introduction to the musical mix of a whistle and very enthusiastic cow bell playing. They are definitely ones to watch, tracks to check out include ‘Mr Music Man’ and ‘Blood on my hands’.

The band bound onto the tiny stage and launch straight into a blistering assault on the senses. They weave effortlessly between highly charged fast paced punk songs to sing along almost acoustic songs such as ‘One Trillion Dollars’.
At times during the gig you actually felt that revolution is possible and that all of the bad things in the world politics wise could be solved by people power. This is where one of the strengths of the band comes from, uniting people through music and waking people up politically through their lyrics and music.

Effective use of lights and audience participation made the gig more than a one dimensional audience staring at a band playing experience. The set list comprised mostly of tracks from their 2006 album ‘For Blood and Empire’. They also mixed it up with new tracks off of their forthcoming 2008 album entitled ‘The Bright Lights of America’. This band deserves to be heard by a wider audience, however if this were to occur would that change their ability to speak relatively freely?
