It has been two years since Melbourne band Airway Lanes released a cd and while the wait was far too long, it has definitely been worth it. The release of the band’s self-titled debut EP in April 2006 saw the band receive nationwide airplay for the singles ‘Desire’ and ‘Ships Are Sinking’, which was also an iTunes Single Of The Week.

Led by the vocal and song-writing talents of Dan Hall (ex-Taxiride), Airway Lanes have since grown and evolved towards a rockier sound on their album ‘In Vino Veritas’, which is especially evident in the first single ‘Don’t Let Go’. The opening track ‘Fade Away’ sets the tone for the entire album and it does not disappoint. Haunting harmonies, infectious melodies and inspired drum beats are evident throughout with clear influences from Nirvana and The Smiths.
Stand out tracks include ‘Promise’, ‘Carry You Away’, ‘No One Dares’, ‘Caroline’ and the especially personal ‘A Public Breakdown’. Each track is uniquely different but all come together to take the listener on a journey through love and loss with plenty in between.

‘Cry’ gives Chris Hawker the opportunity to show his vocal talents and Tim Wild steps in on keyboard to add an extra dimension to the songs.
With Scrubby and Spyder rounding out the rhythm section, there is no doubt that Airway Lanes have grown enormously on this album and are definitely a band to watch. You’ll be hearing them on a radio near you very soon.
