Casting your thoughts to a ‘every town’ vibe in America, this album captures what it’s like to live and exist in a city that perhaps you could get a bit lost in and at other times find yourself too.

The Weakerthans are a four piece Canadian band, sounding like a mix of the quirky vibe of Motion City Soundtrack with a touch of Dashboard Confessional and Bright Eyes thrown in for good measure and even though there is no defining edge to them they are none the less pleasing.
The album is comprised of songs that you might not instantly love but will certainly be rooted in your head days afterwards. It’s ‘tip of your tongue’ music, the sound that you don’t forget but can’t quite describe or explain why you like it; you just do.

The heart here is the ingenious lyrics that are more poetry than anything else as vocalist, John K. Samson, paints an image of average days and happy moments with such effortlessness that you float away with the words and melody.
I’d recommend a listen if you have the time to sit back and soak into the music and just get away from the Hurley burly of modern times. Maybe for the more indie, old school middle American inside of all of us that likes good music without the fuss of selling ‘single’ tracks and appealing to the mass market, not that that is a bad thing, just not what you’ll find on the Reunion Tour.

This album is a loving hug rather than a big surprise party, but it still leaves a warm feeling in your heart.
