Up beat country-esqe pop rock for 2007 I hear you ask for, well look no further. Ok I’m guessing you’re not going to be that specific, but nowadays if you aren’t detailed in your requests any old rubbish will get thrown your way. Thankfully ‘House of Fools’ have delivered a mesmerizing delight with its 60s pop sensibilities mixed with a modern take on the country rock genre that tends to be wiped under the carpet but often produces some lovely gems such as ‘Live and Learn’.
With haunting vocals that linger in your head, the music breezes over them weaving into your mind with grace and style that brings back memories of ‘Bright Eyes’ meets ‘The Academy Is’ with a nod to the likes of ‘The Beach Boys’ whose influence is a clear presence.

Favorites are ‘Until It’s Over’ which leaps off the track list and shakes you up as it plays, ‘Kiss the Haze’ which I can only sum up as a melancholy diamond that gleams in this treasure of a record and ‘I Heard a Rumor’ with its aching honesty and grand peaking guitar solos that are worth a listen in its self. Beautifully sincere and emotionally gripping the record is a reminder that you have to learn from the best and make it your own if you want to be great at what you do, and ‘Live and Learn’ is a testament to this rule.

Every track holds your attention and unlike most new artists out there, you’ll remember these guys for longer than just the albums playtime. Although they might not hit ‘the big time’ straight off the back of this record (which they can gladly prove me wrong, in fact I hope they do), they will certainly be well on the way if this is anything to go by.
With summer well on its way, and global warming doing its thing (in the UK that translates as heat one day and rain and winds the next) you’ll be looking for an album like ‘Live and Learn’, and if your not then what’s wrong with you … go buy it!
