ENTER SHIKARI ANNOUNCE UK TOUR

It has been nearly two years since Enter Shikari last undertook a full UK headline tour.

Sure, there's been the occasional burst of home turf activity… the most pronounced of which being either the four headline dates in February 2010 (which resulted in the Blackpool Empress Ballroom's roof falling in, and ended with the band's biggest headline show to date at London's 5,000 capacity Hammersmith Apollo), or the stint with 30 Seconds To Mars around the arenas and sheds in December 2010. But we're talking proper "get in the bus and go the length and breadth of the island, playing a full set and and being allowed use of the showers" type touring.

So it is with great pleasure that we get to announce a stint of sixteen shows for this coming Autumn, taking in some of the more 'intimate' UK venues the band has played in quite a while.

For this October's run of UK and Irish dates, the band have invited friends / fellow Hertfordshire hardcore outfit Your Demise, and explosive LA combo letlive. to join them, continuing the killer bill that will cross mainland Europe together throughout September.

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND ANNOUNCE UK TOUR

Hot on the heels of the release of Funeral For A Friend’s critically-acclaimed fifth studio album ‘Welcome Home Armageddon’ earlier this year, the band have announced a new crop of headline dates in October in addition to the UK festivals they are slated for over the summer. FFAF headlined the Pepsi Max stage at Download festival this weekend and they are also playing Hevy Festival alongside such bands as Dillinger Escape Plan and Four Year Strong. Their continued ability to command significant festival audiences with their ever-evolving live set is testament to the band’s longevity and consistent popularity. Vocalist Matt Davies-Kreye says of their forthcoming headline tour - “Having just laid waste to this years Download fest we are beyond excited to be hitting the road again in October around the UK bringing forth our musical version of Armageddon. The last UK tour was just the tip of the iceberg, this time it's gonna be hardcore!”

Support acts on the tour will include super popular US rockers Escape The Fate, Aussie favourites-to-UK-shores The Amity Affliction and The Bunny The Bear. Funeral For A Friend’s latest single ‘Broken Foundation’ has just been released following the band’s set at Download festival and the band are looking forward to bringing their new material to the masses on the headline tour as well as at forthcoming festival dates. Of the new track, drummer/vocalist Ryan Richards says - “It’s probably the heaviest track we've ever written and, again, a lot of fun to play. This is probably the one I'm most looking forward to playing live. There’s a first on there with Kris doing his first recorded guitar solo! He's been waiting almost ten years to unleash the beast and now it's out for all to feast over!” Anyone who gets to see FFAF over the summer is certainly in for a treat!

BOAT TO ROW LIVE AT THE YARD BIRD, BIRMINGHAM

After being wowed by the sharp song writing and vocal excellence of Poppy Tibbets Cheltenham’s folk punk heroes Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun took the stage and wowed another audience with another solid performance. I’m slowly running out of comments to describe how fantastic JLandTSS are both on record and as a live band. Today saw an impassioned performance in a small loud room which fits the developing style of the band perfectly. Every aspect of the bands live performance was spot on from Jim’s vocals to Phil’s deep bass, to Simon’s timely drumming to Chris’ Guitars and backing vocals. Once more Jim Lockey and the Solemn Sun blew me away and this is after seeing them twice in a week.

JOHNNY FOREIGNER - CERTAIN SONGS ARE CURSED EP

From the off it’s apparent that this latest release by JoFo is something special which at times distances it’s self from previous releases. The opening is haunting and beautiful in equal measures, with harmonies balanced by distant piano and guitar lines.

DEAR LIONS - DEAR LIONS EP REVIEW

From New York City come Dear Lions, a two piece act who provide some quality laid back indie rock that the States are well known for – unlike in the UK where, for the moment at least, we seem some way off the same level.

BELOW DEFECT - EAGLE EYED GENERATION - SINGLE REVIEW

Southampton quintet Below Defect describe their sound as “thrash melodic metalcore” and “Eagle Eyed Generation”, their first offering since their re-branding, is a promising taster of their forthcoming album. The band offer some impressive fast thrash-paced work reminiscent of Metallica and Slayer with interesting shifts and great atmospheric textures. Vocalist Harrison Bulman – their newest recruit – soars above the burst of heavy guitars and dense basslines to deliver a sound that reaches out with a powerful, yet haunting melody. For me the closest match for his vocals are Maynard James Keenan from Tool/A Perfect Circle.

BAYSIDE - KILLING TIME ALBUM REVIEW

Bayside have consistently made albums that address the emotions of its listeners while still allowing them to rock out to the fast paced music. Anthony Raneri's jazzy voice adds a great contrast to Nick Ghanbarian, Jack O'Shea and Chris Guglielmo's harder instrumentals. While Killing Time is reminiscent of their earlier work it is more intricate and expressive. Bayside has been around for a long time and still has it's listeners begging for more with each album released.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR 'SO FAR AWAY'
This video is a raw and emotional tribute to Avenged Sevenfold's late drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and celebrates the long-time friendship the band members have shared since forming A7X in Huntington Beach, CA, in 1999. The video was directed by Wayne Isham, who has directed videos for such artists as Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth, and Def Leppard, among many others. The heartfelt quality of the video is in keeping with the emotional resonance of the song, a very personal goodbye to Sullivan that appears on the band's album Nightmare.

INNERPARTYSYSTEM ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE, UK DATES AND SONISPHERE APPEARANCE

Innerpartysystem, whose Never Be Content mini-album (Red Bull Records) hit #1 on the iTunes Electronic Chart in the US earlier this year, have announced the release of their new single ‘Not Getting Any Better’. The release will coincide with the band’s just-announced performances at Sonisphere and Wakestock Festivals in July. They are currently in the US playing shows with electronic musician/producer Skrillex and will be at the Global Dance Festival on July 14th. One of the most exciting live bands in the electronic world, Innerpartysystem hand-manipulates loops and effects live on stage with such technical and improvisational prowess that each show is bound to be a mind-blowing pinnacle of electronic bliss. With live drums, live mixing and a mesmerizing light show, it’s a full-on dance party that you won’t want to miss. Drummer / programmer Jared Piccone is looking forward to what is set to be a blazing trip to the UK –

“We can't believe it's going to be our 3rd time back to the UK this year already. It's our home away from home. Just to be sure we don't wear out our welcome, we come baring gifts! We are very pleased to finally unleash a song that has been in the works for quite some time, "Not Getting Any Better", along with remixes from some of our favourite producers.

We are also very pleased we get to be a part of a phenomenon that the UK is known for doing the best, the festival season! There's nothing like playing in front of the amount of people you get to at a festival. We cannot wait to be a part of this year’s Sonisphere festival alongside so many great artists, as well as Wakestock and Slam Dunk.”

New single and electro gem ‘Not Getting Any Better’ has everything you could ever ask for in an electronic song – epic beats, a melody you can’t shake and a totally entrancing groove. Five genius remixes of the song from Sander Kleinenberg, Sidney Samson, Dave Audé, Treasure Fingers and Designer Drugs will be available as B-sides to the original track. The video for ‘Not Getting Any Better,’ directed by Christopher Mills (Interpol, Metric), will debut at the end of May. The ambitious, 8.5 minute animated short film follows the trippy adventures of a trolley car driver in his attempt to escape the mundane life he leads.

Innerpartysystem – Patrick Nissley (vocals), Jared Piccone (drums), and Kris Barman (synth, guitar) – has been moving full throttle ahead this year, inciting a dance frenzy at SXSW, touring the US with acclaimed Australian band Pendulum and selling out shows at the landmark club Madame JoJo’s UK and Corsica Studios in the London.

THOMAS TANTRUM ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, SINGLE AND UK TOUR

Thomas Tantrum have announced that their new album, 'Mad By Moonlight' will be released on June 12th and the single 'Hot Hot Summer' will be available to download a week before on June 5th. You can see the video for 'Hot Hot Summer' below! The band have also announced a headline UK tour set for June - all the dates are listed below.

‘Mad By Moonlight’ is the glorious second album from Southampton’s super talented Thomas Tantrum. A polished, verging on perfect indie-pop proposition, the all new Thomas Tantrum come bearing scrumptious melodies, lyrical sophistication and, for the very first time, the occasional synth…

Based solely around sleep, or lack of it; the album includes references to female insanity, insomnia and things that go bump in the night. Each song is effortlessly wrapped in a dream like sonic cotton wool and influenced by each members love for wildly varying music whether it be The B-52s, Abba, The Sugarcubes or The Cure.

Thomas Tantrum released their eponymous debut in 2008 to great critical acclaim with the likes of Lily Allen and Glasvegas hailing them as their favourite new band. Since then they’ve undergone some major changes. They’ve enlisted the talents of a new drummer, Dave Wade Brown, and front woman Megan Thomas’s voice has matured and blossomed but still keeps it’s wry innocence, charm and wit.

Before ‘Mad by Moonlight’ hits the shelves, the single ‘Hot Hot Summer’, which is possibly the most straightforward pop song on the album, is released on June 5th. It’s a prime example of their talents for writing swooning pop-punk with killer choruses and it comes complete with the typically cute and fun video that we’d expect from the band:

You can see the video for ‘Hot Hot Summer’ below:

Not only that, but the band are hitting the road in June with their headline UK tour! Anyone that’s caught them recently will know that not only has their sound matured, but their stage presence has grown with them and as a live act, they just keep improving.

PENGUINS KILL POLAR BEARS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE - SAPLING - PLUS UK TOUR!

Following on from the success of their second EP, Vessels & Veins, Linlithgow boys Ben Proudlock (guitar and vox), Fraser Sanaghan (guitar), Gavin Cormack (bass) and Kieran McGuickan (drums) a.k.a Penguins Kill Polar Bears, are back with a brand new single, Sapling. The aforementioned EP, and subsequent UK tour, has already made 2011 a successful year for the boys with brilliant reviews across the board from magazines and websites like The Skinny, This Is Fake DIY, The Line of Best Fit and The List.

Sapling sees Penguins Kill Polar Bears slow down their tempo to allow Ben's distinct vocals to dominate the first half of the song. The tune then explodes into a symphony of distortion during the bridge, before gracefully settling back down into a gentle groove.

B-side, "Geiger" provides a bass heavy electro groove contrast to the title track, with ethereal guitars creating a mournful ambience that sweeps over the listener. It's a departure from the band's usual wall-of-sound assault of guitars and drums, and only goes to show that they are more than willing to develop and experiment with their already popular signature sound.

If you can't see the waveform for the acoustic version of Sapling below, listen to it on Penguin Kill Polar Bears' SoundCloud, where you can also download it for free.

Sapling will be released via Mountain Halo on 23rd May 2011.

To celebrate this release, the boys will be taking their riotous live show up and down the UK on a seven-date tour this May, kicking off the proceedings at Cross Keys in Llandudno, sweeping into London guerrilla style to take on the Dublin Castle and wrapping up in Glasgow at The Captain's Rest.

Anyone who's seen this band live will know just how intense their sound can be; those who've yet to experience a Penguins Kill Polar Bear's performance should expect to be blown away.

Watch them perform at one of the dates listed below:

May 2011
22nd - Cross Keys - Llandudno
23rd - Boiler Room - Guildford
24th - Dublin Castle- London
26th - Milo - Leeds
27th - Tunnels - Aberdeen
28th - Cabaret Voltaire - Edinburgh

SET YOUR GOALS ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, UK TOUR DATES AND NEW ONLINE TRACK

The Bay Area's busiest pop punk heroes, Set Your Goals will release their highly anticipated new album, Burning At Both Ends on June 27th via Epitaph Records. Produced by Brian McTernan, the album features thirteen powerful tracks available now for pre-order at www.sygstore.com. Check out their newest song ‘Exit Summer’ here.

Back in full force, Set Your Goals will keep the momentum going with the follow-up to their infectious and dynamic album, This Will Be The Death of Us. Dual vocalists Matt Wilson and Jordan Brown’s flawless delivery on the opening track ‘Cure For Apathy’ captures the SYG sound and energy we know so well as they trade off singing duties. ‘Certain,’ a soon to be fan favorite, highlights Joe Saucedo’s solid bass lines with passionate lyrics and engaging guitar solos.

Keeping it real for die hard fans, Burning At Both Ends has a definitive Set Your Goals sound with their energetic, head-bobbing riffs and gang vocals while staying completely fresh with sing-along choruses and lyrics everyone can relate to. The album delivers with the fast and hard-hitting track, ‘Trenches’ that showcases Dan Coddaire and Audelio Flores’ catchy melodies and guitar riffs. ‘Exit Summer,’ brings back 90’s hardcore with a melodic twist, an irresistible combination. SYG finishes the album with ‘Not As Bad’ where Mike Ambrose demonstrates his tightknit drumming with crazy fills on top of pleasant harmonies - a great way to close out the album.

FEAR NO FISH - NOW OR NEVER EP REVIEW

OUR TIME DOWN HERE - LAST LIGHT EP REVIEW

Hardcore is definitely one of the genres that has reached out to a growing number of music fans over the past decade or so and slowly but surely, more sub genres have emerged where bands are choosing to mix melodic hardcore and pop punk. It worked for Four Year Strong who are gaining top festival slots, and another band who are taking interesting approaches within the genre are Our Time Down Here. For this latest EP “Last Light” (their third release), they show a greater maturity than up to now and the songs showcase some alternative influences such as Alkaline Trio and Gaslight Anthem.

TESLA BOY LIVE AT KLUBI, TAMPERE

For the last three years European music magazines and blogs have been buzzing enthusiastically about one rare music species mutated from a fascination with electronics, style and art, mined from a diversity of New Wave influences like Bowie, Imagination and Depeche Mode and coming from a musically-severe natural environment aka Russian Show Business. The species is known as Tesla Boy and represented by Anton Sevidov (vocal, keyboards), Dima Midborn (bass), Poko Cox (guitar) and Michail Studnitsin (drums). The talent and charisma of these four music aesthetes are so unquestionable that Tesla Boy very often ranges with Russian vodka, famous for its high quality and taste. And so is Tesla Boy!

THE BLACK ANGELS - 'HAUNTING AT 1300 MCKINLEY' VIDEO REVIEW

In a dark dark city there was a dark dark street,

In a dark dark street there were The Black Angles...

And the city was Paris, and the Black Angels were shooting their new video for the latest single “Haunting At 1300 McKinley”. The resulting black and white clip, with the images of unseen haunting danger, colourless blood and silent pain and despair, makes your flesh creep and lets you taste the bitterness of impending doom and confusing insanity. The music that inspired Phillip Andelman to create this video could be a black and white mini-horror in itself being full of psychedelic coldness, aloofness and dejection.

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND - WELCOME HOME ARMAGEDDON

The last decade has seen Wales spawn a number of talented rock acts such as Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets and Bullet For My Valentine, to name but a few. Since then, however, the latter two have retreated to a state of blandness while other home-grown bands like The Blackout and Kids In Glass Houses have not reached the same critical or commercial success. That just leaves Funeral For A Friend to fly the flag for the valleys (or hills). They've had a bumpy ride since their last release, “Memory and Humanity” in 2008, having installed a fresh new line-up but they have also rekindled the original spirit of the band that started out way back in 2001. And “Welcome Home Armageddon” marks a real return to form.

ROCK SOUND EXPOSURE TOUR FEATURING THE XCERTS, JAPANESE VOYEURS AND DINOSAUR PILE-UP - LIVE REVIEW

We may only be a couple of months into 2011, but musically it is shaping up very nicely (apart from the recent demise of Oceansize). We’ve seen the re-formation of Death From Above 1979 and comebacks from Foo Fighters, Strokes and Radiohead, plus a bunch of exciting new acts like Shapes and Axis Of on the horizon. But tonight was all about celebrating great British talent, courtesy of Rock Sound.

  • IN OCEANS SELF TITLED EP REVIEW

As perfectly polished and frankly unforgettable releases are making their way into popular culture, a handful of bands are rebelling and creating a rougher and edgier DIY sound. In Oceans are a part of this tiny minority, having recently released their self titled debut EP.

    VESSELS - HELIOSCOPE ALBUM REVIEW

Post-rock is always a difficult genre to master. A lot of the time, it can come across as gross self-indulgence and simply a showcase for dynamic, progressive riffs that ultimately are no more than background music. Leeds quintet Vessels, however, know how to strike the right balance. Their new record “Helioscope” is definitely one that keeps you fully focussed. Opener “Monoform” is fiercely complex with all great instrumental ingredients on offer. The same applies to “The Trap”, a clever arrangement that is another bold and arresting effort. “Recur”, the first of only four tracks to feature vocals, provides a pleasing contrast to the heavy instrumental-ism that has preceded it and, with its uplifting vocals, is for me the best track of the album.

THE TONIKS JOIN FORCES WITH MANAGER TONY BRITTON AND ANNOUNCE SINGLE ‘YOU & I’ TO BE RELEASED 4TH APRIL

2010 was quite a year for these hardworking and charismatic artists. Following their performance in Brighton Live on the remarkably successful BBC Introducing stage there was considerable extra interest in The Toniks. They engaged KL Press for their PR, signed a publishing deal with Footprint Publishing and set up their own record label, Smile Records.

The Toniks are delighted to announce that they have joined forces with Tony Britton former Echo & The Bunnymen manager and their debut single You An I is released on 4th April.

Since getting together in their present line-up a year ago this Guildford they have been in high demand gigging in London and the South East, building a loyal following. Before even their first gig had a Number 1 and Number 3 in the People's Choice charts. With support from respected industry contacts like Graham Dominy (Eurythmics, Dave Stewart, Razorlight, and Imelda May) who, liking their sound, gave them free studio time for their first CD, they have, after being likened to such groups as Blur, The Lightening Seeds, The Feeling, Squeeze, Ocean Colour Scene, and The Small Faces, been able to make their music stand for itself as original empathetic pop songs The Toniks have also become synonymous for their commitment to supporting charities such as a local children's hospice and Oxjam, giving their time very generously and enthusiastically in these projects.

VIDEO VILLAIN - FEARLESS SINGLE REVIEW

Marie France and Lucy Catherwood's story is a pretty common one. They met at school, discovered each others love for music and the rest is history so to speak.

Thank goodness they did meet then, as their unique brand of industrial, experimental music is something that is far from common. The current music industry is drowned in tame Indie bands and regurgitated Rock, which is why the new single 'Fearless' by Video Villian is something that really stands out.

DINOSAUR PILE-UP RELEASE NEW SINGLE 'MY ROCK 'N' ROLL' ON MARCH 14TH AND HEAD OUT ON THE ROCKSOUND EXPOSURE TOUR TOMORROW!

Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album ‘Growing Pains’ last year, DINOSAUR PILE-UP are set to release new single ‘My Rock N Roll’ on 14th March, following their run on the Rock Sound Exposure tour which kicks off on 17th Feb.

Frontman Matt Bigland says of the track “My Rock N Roll is one of the first songs I wrote for Dinosaur, kind of when I was just working my shit out. I wrote it in an attic I was living in at the time. For me it’s about relationships and how your life works when you've something driving you to the edge. For me that's music, which I guess is pretty obvious in the title. Sounds stupid maybe, but you'd be surprised how much trouble a riff can get you in!”

The band is also excited about hitting the road again this year. Bigland says “I can't wait to get out on the road with Japanese Voyeurs and The Xcerts in February for the Rock Sound tour. I love those guys so it’s gonna be great to be out on the road with good friends. There's nothing like touring with bands that you dig.”

THURSDAY TO RELEASE SIXTH STUDIO ALBUM 'NO DEVOLUCIÓN' ON APRIL 11TH 2011

New Jersey's passionate rock band Thursday returns on April 11 with their most dynamic album to date, No Devolución. On their sixth studio album, Thursday explores elements of post-rock, indie, art and experimental styles, blending it all with their post-hardcore roots for a beautifully cathartic experience unlike anything they’ve done before.

Emotionally charged atmospheric guitars, rhythm and keyboards swirl in unison with Geoff Rickly’s inimitably intense vocals, painting a powerful cinematic-like soundscape and grabbing hold of listeners with each twisting turn. No longer merely the “screamo” band of yore, Thursday has transcended the genre they helped to spark with No Devolución, which translates to “No Returns,” an appropriate title for a band consistently moving forward.

No Devolución wastes no time with the frantic urgency of “Fast to the End,” which strikes a perfect balance between new and old styles. Tom Keeley and Steve Pedulla’s elaborate guitar work, Tucker Rule’s driving percussion, Tim Payne’s rhythmic bass and Andrew Everding’s powerful keyboards fuel the narrative for Rickly’s deeply personal tales of undying devotion, a theme found throughout the album. “Records are always written about new love or break-ups but no one ever writes records about long term devotion,” says Rickly. “After 13 years as a band, this theme seemed self-evident.”

EX LIBRAS RELEASE VIDEO FOR 'TEENAGE EYES'

Ex Libras finished 2010 by taking their EP, Cut(s), on a mini tour of the UK. They then retired back to their infamous shed, keen to develop their second album due for release later this year. Never ones to stay quiet for too long, the lads have decided to punctuate the silence between their last EP and the hotly anticipated second album by releasing new single - Teenage Eyes.

The official music video for the (directed by Ki Films' Beau Fowler) beautifully haunting track tells the tale of a desperate puppeteer who can't shake the agony of a lost love. As he tries to recreate what he once had it is clear that even those in control are attached by wires.

LOWER THAN ATLANTIS ENLIST FANS’ CONTRIBUTIONS FOR NEXT MUSIC VIDEO

Hertfordshire quartet Lower Than Atlantis started filming their new music video for forthcoming single ‘Deadliest Catch’ and realised something wasn’t quite right. They promptly picked up their instruments, headed to the pub and put their heads together. It was decided that this track needed an extra fan-fuelled injection of brilliance. And so the band are appealing to their loyal and trusted fans to help provide content for the music video.

The single will be released on 18th April, but in the meantime you can take a look at the video for single ‘Beech Like The Tree’ which was released this very Valentine’s Day:

PERIPHERY AT CAMDEN UNDERWORLD LIVE REVIEW

Throughout last year, the term “Djent” was making for heated discussions. As a sub genre of progressive metal, it divided fans (and musicians) in equal measure. For some it was an ace innovation, whilst for others it was no more than a watered down version of a sound that shouldn't be messed with. But if the sell out crowd at the Camden Underworld is anything to go by, “Djent” does seem to be the way forward for this genre.

Maybeshewill - Critical Distance Single Review

Described by Thrash Hits magazine as 'more DIY than B&Q,' Maybeshewill have a lot to live up to. Their first two albums both received glittering reviews from the likes of Kerrang! Welsh rock legends FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND are set to release new single ‘Sixteen’ on 21st March.
